Radiant Story is the system The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim uses for dynamically creating quests that are tailored to the current circumstances of the player and the quest giver. This talk will describe how Radiant story works. The benefits and pitfalls of using Radiant Story will be discussed, as well as how we made procedural content feel less mechanical.

Bruce Nesmith is the Director of Design for Bethesda Game Studios. He has spent most of his 20 year career working with role-playing games, starting with TSR Inc. and the venerable Dungeons & Dragons. Since then he has worked on The Elder Scrolls series and Fallout 3. Most recently he had the pleasure of being the Lead Designer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. At one time or another he has been a programmer, a writer, a designer, a QA engineer, a producer, and even did a brief stint creating sound effects. He believes that great games are made with passion, an open mind, and a lot of hard work.
